Meet a Nuggeteer: Joan

Joan, Production Team Captain, took a quick break from the production line to chat with Allie, Nugget's Content Manager, all about her role at Nugget, her beloved pets, and her favorite part of working at Nugget.

Joan, can you describe your job in a way that kids ages 1 to 101 can understand?

I’m one of the team captains, kind of like a sports team captain! I work on the production floor, making Nuggets for Nuggeteers. We make Nuggets step by step, so some weeks I’m working on bases, some weeks I’m working on pillows. Wherever I work, I make sure my team has what they need: materials on the line, the right colors, the know-how to do the work. When we have new people, I show them around and train them on our techniques. 

I’ve been with Nugget since January 2020. One of my favorite things to do at Nugget is stuff pillows. It's really fun to see the different colors and imagine kids jumping up and down on them!

What’s the best part of your job?

The excitement I feel every time a new color comes down the line. I also love to see my coworkers' faces — I have some awesome coworkers! There's not a single thing I don't like about my job. I've had jobs that I dreaded going to and this is not one of them. 

This year, we had a company event at a lake nearby. It was great to see everyone playing games and eating together and enjoying each other's company. 

There was a moment there where you got a bit internet famous… someone posted Cover Set labels where the smiley face looked a little sad. How are you doing?

Oh man, it was just an upside down smile! I promise I’m awesome, we just get a little busy here. I’m doing great!

What’s your favorite Nugget color?

I've got to say Potion! But I have so many favorites.

Favorite kids book growing up? 

Oh I love Clifford the Big Red Dog. That’s also my favorite build: a doghouse, just the right size for Clifford. 

How many Nuggets do you have and who uses them the most in your home?

I have two, Bluejean and Submarine. They are classic blues and go together so well. My cat definitely uses it the most, kind of like a perch to look out the window. His name is Coconut, but I nicknamed him Kiki — he actually answers better to that name than his “real name.”

I also just love animals. We have three dogs too: two Chihuahuas and a hound-mix, not sure what the mix part is but he has beautiful blue eyes, so maybe a Husky?

What do you like to do outside of work?

My husband just got a Harley and we’ve been going on long rides, I love that. 

Alright, last question for you: dream Nugget color and why?

A chocolate color, because I love chocolate, I eat it every day... why not?
