Elections influence everything.
The pothole on the corner. The cost of your prescription. Your kid’s teacher’s salary. Voting gives us a voice in our society, but something as simple as your zip code, background, or age can make it much harder to use that voice.
Voting inequities
Casting a ballot is objectively harder in some places than in others. For example, here in our home state of NC:
- You can be purged from the voter rolls simply for voting infrequently.
- Election Day isn’t a public holiday, and employers aren’t required to provide paid time off for voting. (Here at Nugget, we give the whole company a paid day off to vote and volunteer!)
- There’s only one polling location in some counties. That can mean some voters spend hours trying to cast a ballot.
Leveling the playing field
Nugget is partnering with You Can Vote, a North Carolina-based nonpartisan nonprofit that focuses on voter education, registration, and empowerment.
Together, we’ll highlight resources you can use to educate yourself, to ensure you and your loved ones are registered to vote, and ultimately to cast your ballot successfully.
We’ll also introduce some fun initiatives to raise money for You Can Vote — and hey, you might even get a chance to vote on some future color drops. Don’t sleep on democracy, y’all!
Voting for the future
When we step into a voting booth — whether it’s for a local school board election or the presidential race — we’re imagining a new world for ourselves and our kids.
When we advocate for equal voting access, it’s in the hope that our kids’ imaginations continue to have space to play in the future, and that their creativity has a full and fair opportunity to improve our society for all of us!
